Day 17: Praying for a Turning of Hearts in the Church
John the Baptist was the most influential and powerful prophet before Jesus stepped on the scene. John's calling was to prepare a generation of people. He was to make them ready to receive the One who was worthy of all praise. John came with a message of repentance so that hearts would be softened. He called forth fruit of righteousness and justice. He came with the same spirit and power that Elijah had, with a distinct purpose.
God desired to see the hearts of the older generation turned toward the hearts of the younger generation as a result of John's ministry. The older generation was to have their hearts tenderized toward the younger generation and pour themselves into young people as a result of changed hearts. This model of sonship will raise up natural and spiritual sons and daughters who are confident in their identity in Christ and who are empowered by the Holy Spirit to change the world. This must become part of every church's mandate because it is central to the Father's heart.
What does that mean?
People need to seek God and receive the Father's affections through Christ's redemptive work on the cross. Once hearts are softened and people are able to see young people with the same affections.
Adults then pour their lives into younger people for the purpose of the Kingdom of God, and solidify identities in Christ. Parents have spiritual authority to call forth their children's destinies, and model the love and power of the Holy Spirit everywhere they go.
Seek God. Once your heart is tenderized, find young people and invest everything you are into them.
"And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous - to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." Luke 1:17
"And as they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, "My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!" And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two. Elisha then picked up Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. He took the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and struck the water with it. "Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah? he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over." 2 Kings 2:11-14
"To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the father and Christ Jesus our Lord." 1 Timothy 1:2
"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs - heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." Romans 8:14-17
Cry out to God today. Ask Abba Father to reveal His deep desire and affections for you. Ask Holy Spirit to reveal any wrong mindset that you have toward young people. Invite the Holy Spirit to bring conviction so that you may repent and be renewed to see clearly. Set your heart to have a Christ-like attitude toward young people.
Pray in the Name of Jesus that people in your church would seek and God and receive His affections. Pray that throughout the land adults would see young people the same way God the Father sees them. Pray that the hearts of the older generation would be tenderized to the younger generation so that they can release support, love, and encouragement.
Pray for a powerful impartation to take place between hearts. Bless the young! Pray that children would honour and obey their parents. Ask the Lord to raise up a generation of Jesus lovers who will be willing to live or die for Christ. Pray that they will be filled and led by the Spirit of God to bring many souls into the Kingdom of Heaven. Thank you for the adoption of sonship Father in heaven!
